National University of Legal Studies

The NUALS Act 2005 merged the former National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), previously established and administered by the Kerala Bar Council and the Kerala Trust Bar Council. NUALS was inaugurated by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan on January 7, 2006. [3] The university was located in Kochi as it was the seat of the Supreme Court of Kerala and Lakshadweep. [4] A general overview of the different stages of civil/criminal proceedings. Covers the entire process process, from the initial submission of criminal information and/or civil complaints, to the client interview, application and process phase. Reviews the advocacy and discovery process, including interviews, testimony, and the voir dire process. Also covers heavy strategies and the role of the paralegal. Students must demonstrate their legal knowledge and understanding of the material through drafting a civil suit, accompanying forms, subpoenas, and testimony. This course represents the culmination of skills acquired in previous research and writing courses.

It consists of the preparation of a research document equivalent, in form and content, to a notice of appeal. In the case of students who have received an internship, this course will be assigned and the student will be evaluated based on the writings produced during the internship, whether legal notes and/or dissertations. Online Resources Students can access online legal resources such as Manupatra, HeinOnline, J Stor, Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, SCC Online, etc. from the NUALS network. Admission to NUALS is very competitive. Students are admitted on the basis of rank after passing the prestigious common law admission test. In total, more than 50,000 take the admission test at just 80 places, making the exam one of the toughest in India. The NUALS campus is located in Kochi – the industrial capital of Kerala and seat of the Kerala High Court – in a 10-hectare Kinfra Hi-Tech park in Kalamassery. The NUALS campus offers adequate academic infrastructure – dedicated internet access, Wi-Fi connectivity, online legal resources such as Hein online, Westlaw India and Manupatra, a computer lab, as well as a good collection of standard books and reports, both foreign and Indian. Library The NUALS Law Library is an excellent source of material on all legal issues. In addition to 13,420 law books, students can also access online legal resources such as Manupatra, HeinOnline, J Stor, Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, SCC Online, etc.

The library also has an online catalog that makes it easy to borrow books. The facilities also extend to the availability of a scanner and printer. The library has an upper floor to accommodate even more students. The new library building was officially opened in 2016 by the Honourable Justice T.S. Thakur, former Chief Justice of India. Advocacy room The moot court is located in the academic block. The room is large, spacious and well equipped with a surround speaker system, witness stands, etc. The culture of advocacy in NUALS is deeply rooted. Many teams have represented the university in first-class moot court competitions and have brought laurels to the university.

The university also holds three pleadings on an annual basis, in addition to intra-college pleadings. It organizes the Surana and Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition – South Rounds in collaboration with Surana and Surana International Attorneys, Chennai. The second point of contention is the prestigious NUALS national moot court competition on maritime law. The competition aims to familiarize law students with the changing national and international boundaries of maritime law and to foster a better understanding of the complex and emerging issues at stake. Finally, we have the securities moot court competition, which was recently launched in 2015 but had a broad turnout. The Campus Committee Recruitment Cell is the officially recognized body responsible for facilitating and streamlining the recruitment process. It is an organization formed and administered by the members of the final group. The NUALS recruitment program is organized to help create a platform for legal fraternity organizations to interact with our students for internship purposes. Recruiters are required to inform the recruitment committee of their visit to campus.

The Campus Recruitment Committee (CCR) would also provide LCD projectors/overhead projectors in case a recruiter wishes to give a pre-placement conference.
