Disability Law (D&L) – The Department of Disability Rights focuses on providing legal information to students and community members who have social security disability issues. With a focus on SSI and SSDI claims, we can assist you in the application process and provide legal information about the restrictions that must be met to qualify for benefits. We can help you appeal rejected applications with the option to plead at an administrative hearing, depending on the individual case. Our services give clients the opportunity to meet the requirements required to ensure the best chance of success in their disability applications. We also provide information on accessibility and the rights of people with disabilities to ensure that people`s needs are met. Our goal is to help people with disabilities reach their full potential by providing them with useful information. At Chico Consumer Protection Agency, we serve approximately forty to fifty customers per month. Not only do we strive to provide information that can help businesses from frivolous lawsuits, but we also provide legal consumer information to individual customers to protect them from unfair or illegal business practices.

County Jail Law Project (CJLP) – County Jail Law Project (CJLP) works as part of the Community Legal Information Clinic (CLIC) to assist inmates housed in the Butte County Jail (BCJ). CJLP students also run the law library within BCJ. Inmates in prison can request legal information by submitting a “Butte County Law Library Inmate Request” form. You can also write directly to CJLP at the CLIC offices. CJLP provides legal information, including but not limited to general condition, california penal code, inmate activity, and prison state regulations. Every month, we support about 400 to 500 people in their legal research requests. Criminal Law Project – The Criminal Law Project works as part of the Community Legal Information Clinic to assist individuals incarcerated in state and federal correctional facilities in the United States by providing legal information upon request. Clients usually search for basic legal information and research papers on criminal law, as well as copies of relevant case law.

Common topics include issues of trial, conviction, probation, pardon, and habeas corpus, among others. The project does not provide advice or representation to inmates. We work exclusively as paralegal students who find and access requested forms or legal information. We do not offer legal advice and cannot represent you. Student Legal Services and Minors` Rights – SLS works primarily with students to help them understand their rights and duties. These areas include, but are not limited to: grade conflicts, Title IX, the student disciplinary process, guardianship, and common issues on campus or in the classroom. The Community Legal Information Clinic (CLIC) provides you with free legal information, not legal advice, in the following 11 areas: Misdemeanors, Tickets and Traffic (MTT) – At the Department of Offenses, Tickets and Transportation (MTT), we support community members by providing legal information on a variety of offenses, violations, and erasures. Many of the types of information we disseminate relate to either alcohol-related crimes, record suppression, traffic violations, parking tickets, marijuana-related offenses, fish and game offenses, or the non-appearance of offenses CLIC is a law school program in political science and criminal justice and is also supported by associate students (opens in a new window) as a contract program.* Housing Law – Provides free legal information on Landlord-Tenant Relations. This information includes, but is not limited to, habitability issues, deposits, evictions, leases, roommate disputes, and mobile home law. We provide legal information, not legal advice. We support and support women, men, children and the elderly who are or have been victims of domestic violence or harassment. As paralegal trainees, we are available to provide information on obtaining protection orders regarding domestic violence, harassment and elderly or dependent abuse. Family Law Project – Students in this program can provide clients with information and assistance in completing the necessary paperwork for: dissolution, legal separation, paternity, custody, visitation, and application for an order (RFO: the act of formally asking a judge to make orders in a legal case). We also offer referrals to other self-help organizations and organizations that provide legal resources and support. * In addition to their variety of internal programs, Associate Students contribute to the operational funding of a set of on-campus facilities that provide important programs and services to the student community. These are called contract programs. The Women`s Law Project`s paralegal interns work with local county and state authorities, including: SHARP, Catalyst, Victim Witness, and Safe at Home. Chico Consumer Protection Agency (CCPA) – Our service helps clients file complaints against businesses and ask questions about fraud, identity theft, loans/other types of debt, and general bankruptcy questions. We are also able to provide legal information on contracts, small claims court, lemon law (car sales and other consumer goods), inheritance law (wills and trusts), insurance claims/disputes, disaster recovery insurance, disputes with licensed contractors, dog bites, fiduciary and other potential consumer problems.
