Aetna Chief Legal Officer

Charles Klippel has held various legal positions at Aetna for over 30 years and primarily supports healthcare-related businesses. From 1996 to 2000, he served as General Counsel for Aetna`s international operations. He is currently Assistant General Counsel and leads a team of attorneys who support the company`s government affairs, including Medicare, Medicaid, and federal and state employees. large commercial employers; pharmacy operation; and international activities. He is a member of various external boards, including the Executive Committee of the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. He served as clerk to Justice Stewart G. Pollock at the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Born in Seoul, Korea, Mr. Liu and his family emigrated to the United States in 1972. He received his B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Haverford College with Magna Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

Prior to joining Target, Mr. Liu served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Xerox Corporation. Previously, Mr. Liu served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Toll Brothers, Inc. and Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of IKON Office Solutions, where he was also responsible for IKON`s Corporate Compliance and Chairman of IKON`s Diversity Board. Prior to joining KON, Mr. Liu was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Aetna U.S. Healthcare (and its predecessor company, U.S.

Healthcare). Prior to becoming in-house counsel, he worked as a partner at two New York law firms specializing in securities and mergers and acquisitions from 1987 to 1992 – first at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, then at Richards & O`Neil (now Bingham McCutchen).
